‘Absolutely Shocking’: Champion Bodybuilder Dies Suddenly At 34

Mr. Olympia hopeful Neil Currey — a former competitor in International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness events who made his debut at the 2017 world championships — suddenly died Monday, according to his ex-trainer. He was 34.

Currey’s death was announced on Instagram by Milos Sarcev, posting multiple photos of Currey at competitions.

“Absolutely shocking, heartbreaking news – that my former athlete @neil_currey died today,” wrote Sarcev. “My last/best memory of him was this smiling face after he won New York Pro and fulfilled his lifetime dream of qualifying for the Mr. Olympia.

“I am lost for words and filled with pain and sadness. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. RIP Neil and God bless your soul.”

Originally, Sarcev indicated that Currey might have passed away by suicide, but he has since edited his post, according to the New York Post. The cause of Currey’s death is currently unknown.

The native of Britain earned his professional card after he won one of the competitions in the National Physique Committee Worldwide Amateur Olympia Italy, according to Generation Iron Fitness Network. Currey won gold at the New York Pro in 2022 as a classic physique competitor.

In 2022, Currey finished 16th in Olympia in the classic physique division. In the 2021 Tampa Pro, he tallied a second place finish, while finishing third in the 2022 Pittsburgh Pro. (RELATED: Aussie Rules Football Rising Star Dies Suddenly At 16)
