Going on a camping trip means we are at the mercy of whatever the weather throws at us. The temperature can be very cool with sunshine or it can drop for days. Not many portable power stations can withstand getting wet, which is why the Goal Zero Yeti 300 could be a great option if you tend to camp in wet conditions. It comes with an IPX4 rating for water resistance and there is a mud flap to help protect the outlet. Goal Zero even says you can rinse this powerhouse when it needs a bath.
This is also a great model if you are camping in cold weather or ice fishing. It can safely operate in temperatures as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit (or as hot as 140 degrees). You probably shouldn’t be outside in 140 degree weather, but at least your power station will be fine.
The Yeti 300 has two AC ports, two USB-C, and two USB-A. Recharging via standard AC takes less than an hour or you can use the 200W solar power input to fully charge in less than two hours.
You booked your campsite months in advance, and now the weather forecast says it’s going to rain two inches over the weekend. As long as you have the right gear, maybe the rain isn’t so bad. That’s exactly how the Goal Zero Yeti 300 feels. This portable powerhouse doesn’t mind rain, dust, or mud, and Goal Zero says the brand designed the Yeti lineup to be able to withstand exposure to whatever happens outdoors.
With a capacity of 297Wh, the Yeti 300 weighs 13.7 pounds, and the pop-up handle makes it easy to carry. A mud flap protects all the ports on the front that you’ll use to charge devices, and a cover covers the rear AC charging port and power button. During testing, I appreciated the satisfying click sound of these mud flaps which provides assurance that they are protected from wet conditions.
Batteries have a sensitive temperature range, and not all portable power stations can operate well in extreme temperatures, but the Goal Zero addresses this too. The Yeti 300 can recharge devices in winter temperatures as low as -4 and summer temperatures soaring to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The Yeti 300’s ideal temperature for recharging the power station is on the smaller end of the range, and you should keep it between 32 and 125 degrees. However, both ranges are impressive, especially in hotter regions, with those numbers climbing higher than most portable power stations.
It’s worth mentioning that the Goal Zero Yeti uses an unusual solar panel connector, and it’s not included with the Yeti 300. You’ll have to purchase the cable separately from the Goal Zero, purchase one of its panels, or purchase an adapter to connect this portable power station to another brand of solar panel.
