Project Hail Mary author Andy Weir is ready for liftoff once again on his next project.
Weir is a novelist who had a breakout hit in the sci-fi genre with his book The Martian. The text was adapted into the Oscar-nominated Ridley Scott movie of the same name, which is widely regarded as one of the genre’s best of its decade. Earlier this year, a Weir adaptation made a splash again with the critical darling Ryan Gosling-led film Project Hail Mary.
As per Audible, Weir has now lined up his next creative project. This time, he will take a behind-the-scenes seat, serving as an executive producer on the new Audible thriller Exoplanet. Described as a “full-cast audio experience,” the project will feature a talented leading cast including Anthony Mackie, John Leguizamo, and Ariana DeBose.
Weir is fully taking the producer seat for this project, as a different author is serving as Exoplanet‘s writer. Fellow novelist Benjamin Percy will pen the audio experience’s screenplay. Percy is a versatile writer whose experience includes comics, novels, and screenplays. Among his books are The Wilding, Red Moon, and The Dead Lands.
The sci-fi project has a plot already detailed, focusing on a starship that gets torn apart by a quantum anomaly. Its crew must struggle to survive as they land in different eras — past, present, and future —of a deadly exoplanet. During their plight for life, they also work to figure out how to come back together and communicate once again.
Weir seems stoked about this project, saying that he’s “obsessed with problems” that strong solo characters have to solve, especially when there is “a lot of math” involved. He is drawn to Percy’s unique setup that explores questions of people who are “separated not by distance, but by centuries.” Check out Weir’s full statement below:
“I’m obsessed with problems, the kind where one person and a lot of math are all that stand between survival and disaster. Benjamin Percy’s writing in Exoplanet takes that and adds a twist that genuinely kept me up at night: what if the people trying to save each other were separated not by distance, but by centuries? You can’t see that story. You have to hear it. The crackle across a five-hundred-year gap, the desperation in a voice that doesn’t know if anyone’s still listening. Anthony, Ariana, and John don’t just perform it; they make you feel every impossible mile between them.”
It is interesting to see Weir stray away from where he is most comfortable, both role and medium-wise. He recently served as a producer on the adaptation of his novel Project Hail Mary, however, that was a film and thus a very different animal than the audio storytelling world. Likewise, he is trusting another writer on this project.
That said, audio content is a growingly popular way for media lovers to consume content these days. Audiobooks and podcasts are both popularized by the masses, with some preferring this over a traditional TV show. Between this and the Weir appeal, this new sci-fi venture may get traction.
Exoplanet could draw particular interest from those both in and outside the book and audio storytelling community. Mackie is an MCU star, and DeBose is an Oscar winner. With their and Weir’s name attached to it, this project has the potential to make a splash in what is already a growingly popular medium.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
