This 26-Year-Old Loose End Gives The Baldur’s Gate Show The Perfect Candidate For The First Live-Action Drow

By solving problems from 26 years ago, HBO Max Baldur’s Gate The TV show could give fans their first live-action Drow. Drow occupy an important part of Forgotten Realms lore, however, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves surround them. It features an adventure into their home – the Underdark – but strangely avoids the dark elves of its universe.

Chances are, we’ll see at least one live-action Drow in the near future. The Forgotten Realms is set to get two TV shows, one from Netflix and another – a Baldur’s Gate 3 sequel series – from HBO Max. With both having more time to explore that world, there’s a greater chance of Drow appearing in either of those two shows than Honor Among Thieves.

In that case Baldur’s Gate series in particular, it could easily introduce original Drow characters for the main group of adventurers to encounter. But a much more interesting option could come in the form of a familiar face Baldur’s Gate 2.

HBO Max’s Baldur’s Gate Show May Finally Reveal What Happened To Soulafein

Key art for Baldur’s Gate 3, featuring multiple characters around the game’s logo.

In the Baldur’s Gate 2The main protagonist’s party must enter the Drow city of Ust Natha while in the Underdark. While there, they meet a male Drow warrior named Soulafein, who reluctantly becomes the party’s guide. At first, he appears as a typical cold-blooded Drow warrior, but – depending on the player’s choices – he is revealed to be a much more nuanced character.

As it turns out, Solaufein is actually a good person who rejects the evil ways of his people and their goddess, Lloth. Instead, Soulafein hides his true nature and worships a much kinder goddess, Eilistraee. If a certain decision is made, Solaufein leaves Ust Natha to adventure on the surface, never to be seen again.

Solaufein is easily one of the most interesting characters in Baldur’s Gate franchise to not be a possible companion to the main protagonist. Fans were so disappointed by the missed opportunity and inspired by the potential it had that a mod was created to continue the story. Sadly, the story is never finished in any official capacity.

HBO Max Baldur’s Gate The show could finally revive that storyline and explain what happened to Solaufein. This makes sense, despite the fact that the third game takes place over a century later Baldur’s Gate 2. After all, Drow can live hundreds of years. It’s not unreasonable that Soulafein is out there, living a better life than the one he experienced at Ust Natha.

Even if it’s only for an episode or two, the show may take some time to catch up, and in doing so offers a great and much-appreciated connection to the original. Baldur’s Gate game in the process.
